Number admitted: 700 (28%)

What were the high school rankings and SAT scores of the entering class?
Ninety-three percent ranked in the top 10 percent of their high school classes. More than 25 percent of the entering class were valedictorian or salutatorian of their graduating high school class. The middle 50 percent of the class received the following SAT scores:

Critical Reading: 690-760
Writing: 680-760
Math: 740-800
Math 2 Subject: 750-800           

It’s not surprising that about 30 percent of HMC students are National Merit Scholars. Only one other liberal arts college in the country has more. In other words, you’ll be surrounded by people who take academics as seriously as you do.            

Where are they from?
HMC's first-year students come from 32 states and nine countries:

California 37%
West (excluding Ca.): 26%
South:13%
East Coast: 12%
Midwest: 9%
International: 3%

Over 70 percent of HMC students graduated from public high schools.

How diverse is HMC?
Our work in the classroom reflects the real world. We think our campus should too. We want to bring as many perspectives, cultures, backgrounds, and learning styles into the mix as possible. But we know we can do better. We’re always trying to increase the diversity of this place. Here’s how we’re doing so far:

The entering class is 58 percent male and 42 percent female and includes:

African American: 2%
Native American: 2%
Other / No Response: 7%

How many receive financial aid?
About 80 percent of students receive some form of financial aid from the College. Usually, 40 percent of incoming freshmen qualify for at least one of HMC’s merit awards.
