Fall 2010
The Fall Future Achievers in Science and Technology (FAST) Program is an opportunity for high school seniors who are traditionally underrepresented in math and science, including women, students of color, and those who will be among the first in their families to attend a four-year college to experience Harvey Mudd College and explore the educational opportunities at a small, residential liberal arts college of engineering, science and mathematics.
The program will include an overnight stay, workshops on selective college admission and financial aid, class visits, research lab tours, a tour of the Claremont College Consortium, and other events during the On Campus Day Program (optional). Participants will be doing all this while interacting with HMC students, professors and other college-bound students from around the country who share their passion for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
The Fall FAST Program is free to all participants, including airfare and travel expenses, campus dorm accommodations, and meals for the duration of the program. Participants will also receive a fee waiver for a freshman application.
HMC's commitment to fostering excellence and diversity on campus and in the wider scientific community doesn't end with this weekend program. In addition to campus organizations like the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society for Women Engineers, and the Office of Institutional Diversity, Mudd students can take advantage of a wide variety of diversity resources sponsored in conjunction with the other Claremont Colleges.
We also support our students with extensive financial aid packages; typically, over 80% of our students receive need-based and/or merit-based financial aid. FAST participants are particularly encouraged to apply for the President’s Scholarship Program, our most prestigious merit award. President’s Scholars, selected for their leadership potential as well as academic achievement, receive four-year renewable full-tuition scholarships.
