What is an international student?
International students are students who are not citizens of the United States and who do not have a Permanent Resident Card and number issued by the United States Department of Homeland Security. In general, international students are students currently with a visa or intending to obtain a visa for study in the United States.

What funds are available to international students?
As an international student, you’re not eligible to apply for federal or state financial aid. However, HMC does provide financial support for a limited number of international students each year. We offer awards for international students, including the need-based International Student Scholarship and some merit award programs, one that is specifically designated for international students (the So Scholarship).
If you will need financial support, you should plan to apply for financial aid at the same time that you apply for admission. If you don’t apply for or receive financial aid as a freshman, you won’t be considered for financial aid in future years at HMC.
Once you are awarded aid, your financial need will be assessed annually; however, your maximum annual award will be limited to the amount granted in the first year at HMC. Thus, if costs increase while you are attending HMC, your family should expect to contribute more to your educational costs. The number of awards and the maximum awards are set annually based upon available funding.
How do I apply for financial aid?
When you apply for admission, you will be considered for some merit scholarships automatically, but for others you will need to apply. Contact our Admission office if you have any questions regarding merit aid for new applicants.
To apply for the need-based Harvey Mudd International Student Scholarship, you must submit the following:
The College Board's CSS/Financial Aid Profile Adapted for International Students using HMC's CSS Code # 4341 by February 1, 2010 for Regular Decision Applicants and March 2, 2010 for Returning Students. Please include your email address on the CSS/Profile Application so we can contact you, if needed.

Is student employment available?
International students are not eligible to be considered for the Federal Work-Study program. However, HMC’s Office of Career Services can assist you with information about working on campus, summer jobs and other opportunities.
May I apply for student loans?
International students are not eligible for HMC’s institutional loans or loans that are sponsored by the federal government. You may opt to consider private loans to help pay for college. Bear in mind that you must have a creditworthy co-borrower who is a United States citizen or permanent resident to qualify for these loan programs.
