HMC
Financial Aid for Continuing Students

Follow these steps to apply for financial aid:

1. Submit a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE by March 2, 2010. HMC's CSS Profile code is 4341.

2. Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2, 2010. HMC's federal school code is 001171. You may submit either the regular or the renewal FAFSA, and use either the paper or online format. You will be able to obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) toll-free at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). You may request up to three copies of the paper application and should receive the FAFSA in 3 to 7 business days.

If you filed a FAFSA via the internet last year, you will not receive a paper Renewal FAFSA; you will only receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN) with which you may file the Renewal FAFSA on the Web. If you applied for and received a PIN last year, you may continue to use that PIN. If you are not sent a PIN automatically by the Department of Education, you may apply for one through the Department of Education's PIN web site.  Parents may also apply for a PIN, which will serve as the electronic signature for the FAFSA.

NOTE: You don’t need to file your 2009 federal income tax return prior to completing a FAFSA. Estimate your income on the FAFSA to the best of your ability. We will request a final, signed copy of your and your parents’ 2009 federal income tax returns including all Schedules, Forms, W-2s and 1099s, and Corporate/Partnership Federal Tax Returns with all K-1s (if applicable) for verification in the spring. These forms should be submitted no later than April 15, 2010.

3. California residents only: If you are not currently receiving a Cal Grant, submit a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form to the HMC Registrar’s Office to be considered for a Cal Grant. The deadline is March 2, 2010, but your form should be submitted well before that date. The completed GPA Verification Form must be mailed to the California Student Aid Commission. If you are currently receiving a Cal Grant, you do not need to submit a GPA Verification Form. Your FAFSA will be used to renew your Cal Grant if you are eligible.

4. Submit your supplemental documents on or before, but no later than April 15, 2010.  These documents should be sent directly to The College Board with your personalized cover sheet from The College Board's Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC):

  • a signed final copy of your and your parents' 2009 federal income tax returns including all Schedules, Forms, W-2s and 1099s. Draft copies of tax forms are not acceptable.
  • a signed final copy of any 2009 Corporate Federal Tax Returns with all K-1s (if applicable) for any corporation(s) in which you or your parent(s) has an investment
  • a signed final copy of any 2009 Partnership Federal Tax Returns with all K-1s (if applicable) for any partnership(s) in which you or your parent(s) has an investment
  • Noncustodial Parent's Statement from the noncustodial parent of rising sophomores is required. Upperclassmen who have not submitted two years of noncustodial parent information must submit the Noncustodial Parent's Statement; (if required, and for rising sophomores only)
  • a Verification Worksheet for Dependent Student, if requested on your Student Aid Report (SAR) which you will receive after filing the FAFSA.
  • Business/Farm Supplement (entirely), if your parent did not complete all Schedules on the 2009 corporate and/or partnership federal tax returns (i.e. Schedule L Balance Sheets per Books)

Any other documents requested by the Office of Financial Aid should be sent directly to the Office of Financial Aid.
