Recycling for Scholarships

recycling for scholarships

WE'VE GONE GREEN! We are starting our 2nd year of our "Recycle for Scholarships” project for our Upward Bound scholars. Our goal is to raise at least $4,100 by April 2009 to award to graduating seniors to assist them with the cost of books. Not only are we helping our students with the cost of books, we are also encouraging them to build community and promoting environmental awareness through recycling.

Last year we had students from every grade level collect recyclables from their homes, schools and communities in the East San Gabriel Valley. We were able to award over 20 seniors scholarship funds! This funding helps cover the cost of books as they leave home to start their first year at universities all over the nation: including Yale University, Georgetown University and UCLA. Our scholarship is one step towards helping our scholars fulfill the amazing dreams they have set out for themselves!

This year we’d like to reach out to others in our community. We welcome any and all financial donations to support this worthy cause. Any amount will bring us closer to reaching our goal to help one of our graduating seniors arrive better prepared for their first year in college.

We invite the entire Claremont community to join us in our effort to recycle for scholarships by contributing plastic and aluminum beverage containers. We also welcome all financial donations to support this worthy cause.
