Students may choose to take a student-initiated course to meet HMC’s Integrative Experience requirement. In this category, a student or group of students may propose an independent project or experience that considers one or more specific interactions between science/technology and contemporary society. The student(s) are responsible for finding a faculty member to supervise and grade their work, and must complete an approval form prior to close of business on the first day of the semester.

As part of the IE requirement, a final paper/project demonstrating evidence of significant self-reflection and critical analysis, along with an oral presentation of the work in a forum that allows open discussion of the work, must also be completed.
