Getting Started

Eligibility
HMC requires students to have a minimun of a 2.5 gpa, yet many programs require a minimum of 3.0.  There are, however, a number of programs that will accept a 2.5 or better.  Applicants should be full-time students, in good standing academically and their student account should be current. Any sanctions due to a judicial case against a student must be completed prior to leaving for abroad plus, a clearance to go abroad should be granted by the Dean of Students.

Attend an Information Session
Study abroad information sessions are held within the first few weeks of each semester. Dates, times and locations are emailed to students at the beginning of the semester. Students must RSVP to the Office of Study Abroad to reserve a spot.

Choosing a Program
A number of factors must be taken into account when considering studying abroad. Things like geographical location, spoken language, living arrangements and program specifics are all important things to think about. Learn more...

Meet with Study Abroad and Faculty Advisors
Typically, HMC students study abroad for one or two semesters during their junior year. With appropriate planning, courses abroad can be integrated with HMC work, so that transfer credit can be awarded and study abroad students can graduate from HMC within four years. Learn more...

Intent to Study abroad Form
Once you've chosen your primary and secondary programs, stop by the Office of Study(OSA) abroad to pick up this form.  This form provides an opportunity to ensure that you've researched the necessary components of your program.  You'll also have the opportunity to interview study abroad alums who have participated on these programs!  This form should be submitted the semester before you plan to submit your HMC study abroad application.

HMC Application
Due the semester before you plan to study abroad.  Applications deadlines are as follows:

                                       For fall study abroad:  February 15
                                       For spring study abroad:  September 25


Program Sponsor Application
Once the Study Abroad Committee(SAC) approves your HMC application, you are now eligible to apply for the program.  Make sure to pay attention to the program deadlines!
