Andrew Higginbotham (’09) is Apker finalist

Andrew Higginbotham, who conducted research with Professor Tom Donnelly on laser-induced fusion in mesoscopic water droplets, has been selected as a finalist by the Apker Committee. Two LeRoy Apker Awards are given annually by the American Physical Society for outstanding achievement in physics by an undergraduate, one for students from Ph.D. granting institutions and one for students from non-Ph.D. granting institutions.

The award includes $5000 and a travel allowance to the APS meeting at which the award is presented. Andrew is HMC's sixth Apker finalist in the past eleven years. He will be presenting his research to the Apker Committee in Chicago, IL, on August 31. Then he’s off to England on a Churchill Fellowship for a year, before returning to Harvard University to pursue a PhD in physics. Congratulations, Andrew, and good luck! The winners will be announced in mid October.
