Instructions: Prior to enrolling for courses at another institution, please complete this form and take it, along with the appropriate college catalog or web-page printouts, to your Humanities and Social Sciences advisor. In examining these catalog materials to determine whether courses are transferable, your advisor will consider the following questions: 

• Are courses at the transfer institution comparable to offerings from the Claremont Colleges?
• Are individual courses at least four weeks long?
• Do individual courses offer 40 hours or more of classroom instruction?
• If courses are taken at a two-year institution, are they transferable to four-year institutions within that state system (catalogs for two-year institutions typically list this information)? 

Your advisor will also help you to determine whether the transfer courses meet requirements within the HMC curriculum. Once the courses are approved, you must pass them with a “B” or better to receive transfer credit. On-line courses are not typically accepted for transfer. Except in special circumstances, only two courses may be transferred for Humanities and Social Sciences credit; for details, see “Transfer of Course Credits” on page 9 of the Advising Handbook

Students should be aware that units from an institution on the quarter system may transfer at fewer than three units--see the HMC Registrar for conversion details. The Humanities and Social Sciences Department assumes that a course that meets the criteria above, whether that course is from a quarter or semester system, counts as a full course within the Humanities and Social Sciences requirements.
