Heather Audesirk '11 was crusing in the Mediterranean this summer.

Bonnie Davidson '11 has received her permit to substitute teach and can now sub in 40+ school districts within Kern County.

Millie Fung '11 was recently hired as a Process Development Associate in the Formulations department of the Infectious Disease Research Institute in Seattle.

Heidi Linder '11 has a job with Baylor and is a Research Tech in a lab working on sickle cell.

Laura Poindexter '11 is working at E & J Gallo as a chemistry intern.

Russell Klare '10 recently accepted a position with Surface Chemists of Florida.

Camille Sultana '10 is heading to University of California, San Diego (Ph.D. program) this fall.

Kaitlin Olmsted '10 is teaching at Kaplan Test Prep and volunteers at the Pacific Science Center.

Taylor Neiman '09 has a new position with the South Coast Air Quality Management District in Diamond Bar. He works in the particulates group primarily focusing on general monitoring, although he has other special projects that come in on a weekly basis. Taylor specifically assists with the metals work (monitoring Pb and Cr6+, investigating unknown spills/discharges, etc. He sees all the work from the lab reach the public immediately (such as air quality reports and radiation monitoring that is occurring due to the events in Japan). His hobby is still skydiving and he got his license last summer. He is now working toward a certification for night jumps.

Rachel Nishimura '09 started a new job with Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals in San Diego.

Glennis Rayermann '09 recently earned a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship and an honorable mention from the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program.

Terence Wong '09 has been accepted into the Ph.D. program at Harvard Medical School (Biological and Biomedical Sciences).

Jenn Du Mond '08 will be starting at Yale School of Public Health for a MPH program this coming fall.

Matt Hoss '08 is working  as a Scientific Associate at the Genomic Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation.  He is on a team that will purify 1,000 proteins over the next year in a mammalian expression system.

Sam Sobelman '08 started a new position with Dendreon.

Kaitlyn Gray '06 has a position with Dow Chemical in Michigan in the process development group once she has completed her Ph.D.

Annie Tan '06 will head to University of California, San Diego this fall to attend the School of Medicine.

Aaron Jacobs '04 began his National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences postdoc at Oregon Health and Science University-Center for Research in Occupational and Environmental Toxicology.

Courtney (Rotstan) McQueen '04 and Tyrel McQueen '04 welcomed their first child, Kaiden, late August. Both have earned their Ph.D.s from Princeton. Courtney is Associate Publisher at Light Knowledge Resources, an internet media company that produces a series of websites providing focused news and information on specific health-related topics. Tyrel is Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins with a joint appointment in both the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Monica Jo Patten '03 is currently at P&G in Cincinnati. She is in Beauty & Grooming Technology Development in Upstream Hair Color. She has really expanded her industrial experience outside of synthetic organic chemistry at P&G. She is still doing synthetic chemistry, but have also obtained experience in formulation, technical product stories (basically the technical portion of marketing), commercialization, and collaborating to enable salon trials. Monica has collaborated (internationally) with Product Safety, Upstream colleagues, Pilot Plant colleagues, Regulatory Affairs, Product Development, Legal, Materials Science, and Analytical. This summer, she is coaching a PhD summer intern. After gaining experience at P&G, Monica has realized that business skills are becoming an increasingly important complement for a technical career. She is currently pursuing a MBA from Indiana University – Kelley School of Business.

Alex Mandel '02 recently finished up a postdoc position in France with Janine Cossy.  He is now in Singapore on a postdoc project involving transdermal drug and vaccine delivery with nanotechnology.  He notes that this work has broadened his scientific skills and horizons drawing on skills from physics and material sciences, to immunology, to animal handling.

Eric Toberer '02 has sarted as assistant professor of physics at Colorado School of Mines.

Noel D'Angelo '97 was a guest on the campus last spring. Noel's career path took him directly from graduate school into work at Amgen (Thousand Oaks). He is doing synthetic chemistry on anti-cancer agents.

Prof. Daub was listening to a "Science Friday" broadcast on NMR that featured a kid with a science project about the effect of temperature on how high a golf ball bounces.  Our own Dan Savin '95 was one of the guests who commented on the project.

Larry Goldsmith '81 teaches English language and literature at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) and the Colegio de Mexico (Colmex), and has taught history at the Esuela Nacional de Antropologia e Historia (ENAH), in Mexico City. Larry also works with the Centro de Informacion y Documentacion de las Homosexualidades en Mexcio (CIDHOM), a community-based historical archive.

Larry Perez '79 is doing targeted synthesis for Novartis. He has an older son at Bowdoin College and his younger child is in high school.

Andy Lees '76, scientific director and founder of Fina Biosolutions, was a chemistry seminar speaker last semester. He entertained a group of chemistry faculty and students with his passion of magic tricks and balloon twisting. It was great fun for all! Dr. Lees is recognized for his work in conjugate vaccines. One of his newest inventions underlies the chemistry of GlaxoSmithKline's pediatric conjugate vaccines Menitorix and Synflorix. Menitorix prevents meningitis. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
