Rising Junior Registration Checklist

First Things First

  • Your yellow pre-registration card will be in your student mailbox on April 5, 2012.
  • Locate the names of your current advisors on your yellow web-reg card.
  • Read the online pre-registration information.
Things to Consider

  • Beginning Fall 2010, PE courses are now worth 1 unit of credit per class (not to exceed 3 credits), but will not be included in your academic overload consideration.
  • Have you completed your three PE requirements?
  • Are necessary major seminars/colloquiums included in your schedule?
Beginning Fall 2010, colloquium courses are now worth 0.5 units of credit (not to exceed a maximum of 2.0 credits), but will not be included in your academic overload consideration.
  • You must have at least 12 units to be a full-time student.
  • Consider taking an IE course. Although no longer required, they are still available.
  • Consider alternate electives, in case your first choices become full/closed.

Web-Registration

  • Look at the Web-Registration overview, schedule and instructions on the Registrar's website
  • Look up your web-registration appointment time. It is on your yellow web-registration card and on the Registrar's website. You will have portal web-registration access for a 24 period beginning at your appointed registration time. After that, come to the Registrar's Office for continued registration. After the formal registration, the portal will open again to all 5-C students for add/drop for Fall courses.
  • Use the Course Registration features to look up courses so you will be familiar with the portal features before your pre-registration access starts.
  • Be sure to get your web-registration clearance well before your pre-registration start time.
  • Contact the HELP Desk or the Office of the Registrar if you have problems with portal web-registration.

Decide on Courses for Fall 2011

  • Have your advisors approve your courses/alternates and sign the web-reg card.
  • Obtain signatures for Independent Study, Directed Reading, Research classes using the Independent Study/ Directed Reading/Research Approval form available at the Registrar's office.
  • Obtain instructor permission using the PERMission system on the Student Portal for any of your classes that require it.
  • Obtain instructor signatures on a Class Conflict Approval Form if any class has a time conflict with another class.
  • Arrange for overload approval with Dean Jacobsen if needed. Ordinarily, a student must have a 3.00 semester GPA the preceding semester to be eligible for an overload.

Last But Not Least
Is the information on your yellow web-reg card complete?

  • Course numbers complete with section/college indicated (i.e., BIOL052 HM 02).
  • Course titles as complete as possible plus days and times listed.
  • Do you have all the required PERMissions?
  • Is the information on the web-registration card legible?
  • Once you have obtained your advisors' approvals, take your pre-registration card (and approval forms, if needed) to the Office of the Registrar prior to your web pre-registration start time to receive web-registration clearance. You will be given a copy of your yellow pre-registration card which you will use to pre-register for courses during your 24 hour web-registration window. Don't wait until the last minute. You can get your registration clearance after your advisors have signed your web-registration cards.
If you have any questions regarding web web-registration, web-registration clearance or PERMissions, please feel free to contact the Office of the Registrar.
