International Festival - April 10, 2010
HMC students performed a Chinese Dragon Dance as the opening feature of the 32nd International Festival at the Claremont Colleges! It was a great family event with tons of delicious food and exciting entertainment from cultures all over the world!
Cesar Chavez Month - March 22 - April 29, 2010
"We need to help students and parents cherish and preserve the ethnic and cultural diversity that nourishes and strengthens this community - and this nation" -Cesar Chavez. The legacy of Cesar Chavez was celebrated by all of the Claremont Colleges through events during this month.
Women's History Month - March 2010
Actress/comedian Sandy Brown came to the Claremont Colleges to perform a one-woman show entitled "Oh, Yes She Did" that followed black woman trailblazers through American history. HMC also celebrated Women's History Month by focusing on the women of today. People from HMC campus participated in a book club that read “I Am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World” by Eve Ensler. Also, OID arranged for free massages as well as workshops on relationships and self-defense.
Black History Month - February 2010
HMC students took a walk through history with posters lining the inner dorm quad and played for a free lunch at a black restaurant by answering tricky trivia questions.
Lunar New Year - February 14, 2010
Lunar New Year is the celebration of the beginning of the year as determined by the orbit of the moon. This holiday is celebrated in several Asian countries, such as Korea, China and Vietnam. Here at HMC, we celebrated the lunar new year with a Chinese-themed lunch menu and our very own dragon dance performed by HMC students.
Latino Heritage Month - September 15th - October 15th, 2009
Latino Heritage Month is the period to recognize the contributions of Latino Americans to the United States and to celebrate Latino heritage and culture. The Office of Institutional Diversity will host a month-long celebration with various events.
