Information about the position: Salary is dependent upon qualifications. This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible position reporting to the Director of Annual Giving.

What the successful candidate will do: The Associate Director reports to the Director of Annual Giving and has oversight of specialized Annual Giving programs - including phonathon, senior gift campaign, young alumni giving, reunion giving and student philanthropy, as well as, assisting with the execution of overall Annual Giving strategies.  The Associate Director will work in conjunction with the Director to develop a comprehensive approach to all Annual Giving programming.

The Associate Director will have oversight on many projects, including collaboration with partnering offices within Advancement and on campus as it relates to student philanthropy, young alumni giving and targeted giving initiatives, such as reunion giving or departmental focuses. This position serves as a resource for supporting and elevating Advancement's interactions and engagement with students, members of the Alumni Association Board of Governors (AABoG), the broader alumni community, parents and friends of HMC.

Essential Functions:

Phonathon Oversight & Pipeline Management

  • Oversee and manage student phonathon program - including student managers and callers.
  • Conduct phonathon training and maintain programmatic manual and resources.
  • Meet weekly with Phonathon Managers, trouble-shoot, develop calling strategies and scripts.
  • Oversee office coordinator to execute call sheets and daily tracking of responses.
  • Maintain oversight of phonathon assessment reports, while managing office coordinator's daily entry of Excel tracking system.
  • Efficiency assessment for annual review - projecting segment timeline calling.
  • Identify incentive programs for phonathon callers and managers.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment in the Phonathon Room, in coordination with office coordinator.
  • Prospect management of leadership donors, and collaborative strategies with regional development officers.
  • Conduit between phonathon program and major gift program.

Student Philanthropy and Engagement Programming

  • Work directly with student committee/leaders on giving initiatives.
  • Strategize with identified student leaders to identify goals.
  • Develop strategies and collaborate with Communications to execute marketing plan.
  • Execute campus-wide educational campaign for entire student body.
  • Cultivate relationships with students, particularly those in leadership positions.
  • Partner with Alumni and Parent Relations, and Dean of Students Office to execute senior gift programming events and communications.
  • Partner with cross campus offices to develop student philanthropy programming and approaches within overall Advancement strategies.

Young Alumni Giving Programming

  • Develop targeted messaging and track response and trends to specific appeals.
  • Track recent graduate participation with an expectation of steady growth.
  • Assist Selections Committee with identifying young alumni Trustee and AABoG prospects.
  • Manage leadership prospects and work with regional development officers to establish fundraising strategies.
  • Collaborate with Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship Office in maintaining endowed class gift programs.
  • Manage the young alumni component of the newly developed leadership giving society, identifying new prospects and those in the pipeline.

Annual Giving Programmatic Support

  • Work with the Director and Annual Giving team to develop a comprehensive calling schedule to solicit alumni and parents, coordinated with overall solicitation strategies, segmentations and messaging.
  • Assist Director with development of Annual Giving solicitations.
  • Assist with managing special solicitation projects (e.g., reunion, class scholarships, department initiatives).
  • Develop and execute regional phonathon events for AABoG and other alumni volunteers.
  • Maintain senior giving and phonathon web pages with fresh content on the hmc.edu/invest site.
  • Assist as a staff liaison to the AABoG Fundd Committee.
  • Assist in the execution of Alumni Weekend, Family Weekend, Parent Orientation, key donor relations events and AABoG quarterly meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What the ideal candidate will bring to this position and HMC:
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the position.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in development and fundraising.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier.
  • Thoughtful communicator of ideas, opinions and thoughts both written and verbal.
  • Self-regulates time, need for details and ability to manage several projects at once.
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers, colleagues and students, through leadership, and creativity.
  • Exercise independence in implementing responsibilities.

  • Ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Mastery of standard office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Office programs): Word (including mail merges), Excel (including macros, charts and other advanced functions), PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and Outlook.
  • Outstanding ability to develop reports, agendas, and simple proposals
  • Ability to apply basic and analytical math and budget monitoring procedures in maintaining financial/budget records.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a college advancement office, or similar environment of a non-profit institution.
  • Prior experience as a fundraising caller (as an employee, student or volunteer).
  • Experience managing student workers in a higher education setting.
