Information about the position: This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt, non-benefits eligible position with an anticipated duration of six months to one year. Starting rate is dependent upon qualifications with a minimum of $25.00 per hour. Usual working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.
What the successful candidate will do: The Programmer assists the Director of Advancement Services (DAS) in the Office of College Advancement (OCA) to deliver high quality data and reporting services. The Programmer works directly with the Assistant Director of Advancement Services (ADAS) on all programming tasks. Under direction from the DAS and guidance and collaboration with the ADAS, using the Cognos10 software, SQL and the OCA current database (Jenzabar CX) this position will develop customized reports and create processes for electronic transfer of information.
Essential Functions:
- Develop customized reports for the OCA to support day-to-day functions and activities for the benefit of office staff, college personnel or college-related individuals (alumni, trustees, etc) utilizing the current database management system and report writer system; (examples of reports to be developed are gift summary and detail reports, campaign reports, annual and major gift reports, solicitation tracking and summary reports, etc.).
- Assist the Advancement Services team and the Assistant Director of Advancement Services with higher-level programming.
What the ideal candidate will bring to this position and HMC:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education/training and related work experience.
- Three to five years programming in Cognos8 or Cognos10 and basic report writing.
- Ability to develop complex reports in Cognos8, Cognos10, Crystal Reports, or similar reporting tools.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of ANSI SQL.
- Knowledge of different implementations of SQL, such as MS SQL, Informix or MySQL.
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of the Office of College Advancement team.
- Ability to collaborate well with staff from Central IT offices.
- Must be able to meet deadlines, think strategically and work with numbers.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Personal integrity and ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information
- Additional skills desired, but not required - Knowledge of desktop database clients and query tools such as MS Access, MS Query, or Toad for SQL.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in higher education.
