Dean of Students

The Dean of Students Office coordinates programs, facilities, resources and support compatible with HMC's academic mission to enhance students' learning and growth. Our staff is responsible for residential life, student activities, club advising, leadership training, and volunteering and community service. Along with close collaboration with other student services of The Claremont Colleges, we also oversee HMC's recreation and fitness facilities, career services, personal counseling and referrals, leaves of absence, accommodations for students with disabilities, new student orientation and commencement.

Several principles help us accomplish these activities:

  • Respect all students
  • Set high standards and expectations of behavior
  • Support the Honor Code as foundational for student character and citizenship development
  • Nurture the freedom, responsibility and accountability of student self-governance
  • Provide programs for all dimensions of life—spiritual, political, cultural, social, physical, emotional and career-related
  • Promote the value and investigation of human diversity in others and one's self
  • Encourage and support healthy student initiatives
  • Emphasize collaboration with all college constituencies
