Summer Research Tours 2007

June and July 2007

As a follow-up to last summer’s successful tours, a second series of site tours has been arranged for our Summer Research students and faculty during June and July. These tours are designed to provide professional development opportunities to our students. The purpose of these visits is not just to hear about some products, but for students to see first hand that keeping laboratory records is important, the importance of patents in an industrial environment, and that knowing the literature of a field and how to access it are skills you must develop.

If you are interested in any of the following professional opportunities, please view the individual tour pages for details and sign up immediately. Please feel free to discuss these opportunities with your peers.

Tour #1:     Chevron Refinery in El Segundo
                  Thursday, June 7th

 Tour #2:     NASA/JPL Pasadena
                   Friday, June 15th

Tour #3:     The Rand Corp. (Santa Monica)
                   Tuesday, June 19, 2007

Tour #4:     Accenture (Visit Fox MySpace)
                   Week of June 25th

Tour #5:      Amgen Inc. (Thousand Oaks)
                   Tuesday, July 10, 2007

The times listed, especially the return time, are based on estimated travel time to and from the site.

All of these companies want the names of the visitors sent to them a week or several days before our arrival, hence the importance of early sign-ups.

Please remember these visits are to professional research facilities and you will be treated as a young professional.  Being accorded such treatment means you are responsible to represent yourself and HMC professionally. Dress should be business casual which means no shorts, tank tops or flip flops.  Keep in mind you may be visiting a future employer.

Sign-ups are available –  please send an email to DruAnn_Thomas@hmc.edu or call 70898 to sign up for any of these tours.

For the first two tours, all students may sign up but first priority will be given to Summer Research students.
