This speaker series, supported by The Walter and Leonore Annenberg Fund for Leadership Development, engages the Harvey Mudd College community in important thought and discussion about the role of leadership in the world.

"A Career of Leading and Winning"

Kathy Hill has been on the front lines of a fast moving industry - computer networking. She started her career as a software engineer and became the business leader of several highly successful multi-billion dollar businesses. She will share her experiences as a leader and an engineer in what has been a wild and wonderful career.


Kathy Hill is a senior vice president at Cisco, where she leads product development teams to successfully deliver market-leading products. Other positions she has held since joining Cisco in 1997 include senior vice president, development strategy and operations; senior vice president of the Access Networking & Services Group; and vice president and general manager of the Desktop Switching Business Unit. Prior to joining Cisco, Hill was vice president at Ascend. She also held senior management positions at Newbridge Networks and Hughes Network Systems. She holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Lead Director, Cisco Systems, Inc; former CEO, Yahoo! and Autodesk

"Leadership in the Age of Social Media"

Carol Bartz is the former Chief Executive Officer of Yahoo!. Prior to Yahoo!, Bartz served as the Executive Chairman of the Board of Autodesk, Inc., a computer-aided design software provider, from May 2006 to February 2009, as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Autodesk from April 1992 to April 2006, and as a director of Autodesk from April 1992 to February 2009. From 1983 to April 1992, Bartz served in a number of positions at Sun Microsystems, Inc., a provider of computer systems, software and services (now a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation), including as Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations and as an executive officer. Currently, Bartz serves as the lead director of Cisco Systems, Inc.

Chairman of the Board, IMAX Corporation

"A Business Biography"

Brad Wechsler is currently chair of IMAX Corporation, where he was previously CEO and Co-CEO. Wechsler and a partner led the acquisition of IMAX in 1995 and subsequently helped oversee the company's transition from film-based technologies to digital technologies enabling films like "Avatar," "Harry Potter" and "Spider-man" to be shown in IMAX. Wechsler is also co-chair and a principal shareholder of Assay Healthcare Solutions, a healthcare IT start-up that uses sophisticated mathematical modeling to better align in-hospital nursing resources with patient demand. Earlier in his career, he worked for HBO and Columbia Pictures and had various investments in gaming, motion picture financing, digital advertising and radio stations.

Wechsler currently serves on the boards of Apollo Investment Corporation, IMAX Corporation and Assay Healthcare Solutions. Prior board positions include MGM, Great American Communications and S.E. Realty Corporation. His current non-profit directorships include Math for America, The Ethical Culture Fieldston Schools and NYU Medical Center. He is also a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

He has a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.

Executive Vice President of Software Solutions Division, Juniper Networks

"Leading by Example"

Bob Muglia is the Executive Vice President of the Software Solutions Division, where he oversees the company's end-to-end software strategy. As head of Juniper's Software Solutions Division, Bob brings a centralized vision to the company's software efforts enabling Juniper to sharpen its focus on software as a core engine of growth for the company.

Before joining Juniper in 2011, Bob served in leadership positions across all of Microsoft's business groups, including Developer, Office, Mobile Devices, Windows NT and Online Services. Most recently, he served as president of Microsoft's $15 billion Server and Tools Business (STB), where he was responsible for infrastructure software, developer tools and cloud platforms, including products such as Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio, System Center and the Windows Azure Platform. Prior to joining Microsoft, Bob was a development manager at ROLM Co. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Michigan.

Mike Schroepfer

Vice President of Engineering, Facebook

"Accelerating Innovation at Scale"

Mike Schroepfer is the vice president of engineering at Facebook. He leads the company's engineers who write the code used by hundreds of millions of people each day. Before Facebook, Schroepfer was the vice president of engineering at Mozilla Corporation, where he led the global and open product development process behind Firefox. Schroepfer was formerly a distinguished engineer at Sun Microsystems which acquired his company, CenterRun. He began his career working at various start-ups including a digital effects software company, whose products were used in several major motion pictures. Schroepfer holds bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from Stanford University and has filed two U.S. patents.
