With the launch of our Identity and Access Management (IAM) initiative, CIS is introducing the concept of “HMC Credentials”.
Your HMC credentials, part of our single sign-on (SSO) environment, consist of a username and a password that are not specific to an application but can be used to access multiple applications. Therefore, it is more important than ever to have strong passwords and to guard them well.
The implementation of the single sign-on environment and use of the IAM tool, will create a change in CIS communications and practices. Up to now, we have typically identified usernames and passwords by reference to the application or server which uses them, so we often say things like “Zimbra username and password” or “ldap username and password”. From now on, CIS will no longer refer to your “charlie login” or your “zimbra login”, for example, unless they are different from your HMC credentials.
CIS staff will use the term “HMC Credentials” from now on whenever we are referring to the login process for applications that are part of the SSO environment. As the project proceeds, fewer and fewer systems will use anything other than HMC credentials.
For most people who are already at the College, the username part of your HMC credentials will be derived from their Alice or Charlie username (Active Directory). Incoming students and new employees will choose a username and password during the account creation process.
CIS staff will never ask for the password associated with your HMC Credentials.
Please call the Help Desk at (909) 607 7777 or email helpdesk@hmc.edu if you are in doubt about your username.
