Harvey Mudd College employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background records check and if in a position requiring use of a college vehicle, the acceptability of the individual's driving record, as maintained by the Department of Motor Vehicles, to the college's automobile liability insurer. A functional capacity test is required for employment in certain positions.

As are all employers, Harvey Mudd College is required by law to acquire a completed U.S.Citizenship and Immigration Services I-9 form from each newly hired employee. The I-9 form requires new employees to provide original, appropriate documents verifying both identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
