Clare Boothe Luce Program of the Henry Luce Foundation
In June 2006, the Henry Luce Foundation awarded a grant of $264,000 to fund four Clare Boothe Luce Scholarships during a two-year period. These scholarships will be awarded to HMC women majoring in computer science, engineering or physics, and will be overseen by a committee of faculty members, including Shenda Baker (Chemistry), Mary Cardenas (Engineering), Patricia Sparks (Physics) and Elizabeth Sweedyk (Computer Science).
Grant for the creation of an Engineering Design Studio and Instructional Center from the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation
In June 2005, the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation awarded a grant of $500,000 for the renovation of classroom space in the Parsons Engineering Building for the purpose of creating an Engineering Design Studio and Instructional Center, which includes a seminar room equipped for video-conferencing. This project was directed by professors Tony Bright, Clive Dym and Patrick Little (all Engineering).
Undergraduate Science Education Program grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute
In May 2004, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HMMI) awarded a four-year grant totaling $1,200,000 as part of its Undergraduate Science Education Program. The HHMI grant provides funding for research, equipment and faculty development in interdisciplinary aspects of biology and is overseen by Professor David Asai (Biology).
Science Equipment Program grant from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation
In March 2004, the Sherman Fairchild Foundation awarded a five-year grant totaling $495,092 for equipment for teaching and research in biology, chemistry and physics, especially in interdisciplinary combinations. This grant is overseen by HMC professors David Asai (Biology), Bill Daub (Chemistry) and John Townsend (Physics).
