HMC Emergency Preparedness

Harvey Mudd College is dedicated to providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Predicting when an emergency situation will occur is impossible so it is imperative that HMC and its community members are always prepared. To this end, this site is designed to provide students, faculty, staff and HMC visitors with emergency procedures and preparedness information.
Preparedness information includes tips and strategies to assist (and encourage) everyone to develop and maintain a home preparedness and office preparedness kit. Preparedness at HMC includes training opportunties for those interested in participating on campus response teams and those interested in learning Fire Safety, CPR, or basic First Aid. Preparedness also includes practicing skills necessary to reduce injury and save lives, especially in an emergency. Drills and emergency system test information is provided, as well as a variety of related resources and updates.
Emergency procedures are provided to give guidance to HMC community members during an emergency situation. These procedures are practiced during drills and other preparedness activities. It is impertive that EVERY HMC community member know WHAT to do in an emergency and PRACTICE these steps prior to an actual event.
In additional to preparedness and emergency procedures, the HMC Incident Management Team is charged with emergency response duties for the campus. Teams attend monthly training sessions to review and rehearse the Incident Command System and CERT (Campus Emergency Response Team) positions. More information about HMC emergency response teams can be found in Be Prepared.
