SPECIAL NOTE: To add additional phone numbers (up to 3) or an email (1) to the HMC Connect-ED Emergency Notification System, send an email to melonee_cruse@hmc.edu.
In early fall 2007, Harvey Mudd College and the other members of the Claremont Colleges Consortium implemented Connect-ED® communication services for rapid emergency notification. This system allows each college to convey time-sensitive information within minutes, through a single phone call.
With the Connect-ED® service, each campus can schedule, send and track personalized voicemail, written and text messages for all members of their community. These messages are sent via four different modes of communication:
- Voice messages to home, work and/or cell phones
- Text messages to cell phones, PDAs and other text-based devices
- Written messages to e-mail accounts
- Messages to receiving devices for the hearing impaired
Notifying appropriate parties immediately is crucial in emergency situations such as severe environmental conditions, acts of campus violence or circumstances that call for immediate notification or action. Accurate, timely communication helps to minimize the spread of misinformation. These emergency messages can also provide detailed instructions.
HMC students, faculty and staff who have a campus or dormitory telephone extension and college e-mail address are automatically added to the Connect-ED® service. Every communtiy member is encouraged to add their cell phone to the notification list. Receiving a voice or text message when you are away from your office or dorm, or off-campus keeps you informed of events happening on campus. Additionally those community members without a telephone extension or college e-mail account can sign up to receive a voice or text message on their personal cell phone. Visit the HMC Connect-ED Contact Information web page to add your cell or home phone numbers. Community members can also add additional email address. The more means we have to contact individuals, the better the college’s odds are of spreading timely and accurate information and keeping everyone informed.
