Emergency Fund
The Dean of Students Office has set up an emergency fund to assist students in times of financial emergency. Students should talk to the dean regarding their financial situation and the need for short-term emergency funds.

Dean of Students’ Van
Students are encouraged to use the DOS van for official events sponsored by recognized groups and organizations. Prospective drivers must receive a DMV clearance of their driving record and pass an online driving safety test. This process begins by presenting a valid driver’s license to Eva Gomez in 229 Kingston. Van reservations are managed by Amy Laird in the Dean of Students Office, x18125. The cost of van usage is $.505 per mile.

Mail Service
The student mailroom is located in Platt Campus Center. Enrolled students will be assigned a mailbox. Students may access the mailroom using a combination code available from the Mailroom Staff or the Dean of Students Office (DOS). U.S. Postal Service (USPS) mail is sorted by student staff daily, typically by dinner time. Package delivery is handled separately from letter service. Students will receive an e-mail notice and a laminated card in their mailbox if they have a package available for pickup in the mailroom. The addressee's signature will be required before the item can be released. The mailroom is also a pickup site for DHL, FedEx, UPS and USPS packages. Students may leave properly addressed and prepaid outgoing packages in the mailroom for pickup. Students may also purchase postage stamps at the mailroom. The student mailroom is not a substation of the U.S. Postal Service or any other shipping company. However, the Claremont Post Office is within walking distance-at the corner of Second and Harvard in The Village.

Student Activities
Whether you seek diversions that are athletic, religious, literary, artistic, social, political or simply frivolous in nature, The Claremont Colleges most likely has a group to match your interest. Many students find that the number of extracurricular activities that interest them far exceeds their spare time. Most student groups are always looking for new members. The key to making your academic experiences a success is to supplement them with extracurricular activities.

At HMC, three student activities coordinating groups exist to plan and implement a variety of events and programs. The Social Committee and the Committee for Activities Planning (CAP) are student government groups which provide funding and support for both  on and off-campus events.

The Dean of Students Office also plans and implements student activities in conjunction with CAP. Four students (known as DOS student activity assistants) are hired yearly to work with CAP-appointed representatives to increase cultural opportunities for students and coordinate events that are not usually available at HMC. Some past activities have included performances on campus, organizing "series events," promoting activities that educate students in various issues pertaining to lifestyle choices, and nonalcoholic events that often draw students off-campus.

Student Government
The Associated Students of Harvey Mudd College (ASHMC) have set up a government to represent themselves to the faculty, administration and the community. This government is delineated in the ASHMC Constitution and Bylaws, which appear in the appendix.

The executive body of ASHMC is the Student Council. The Council consists of the president, treasurer, vice president, eight residence hall presidents and five committee chairs. The Student Council is responsible for collecting student dues, chartering and allocating money to student organizations, supervising subcommittees, and representing the student body as a whole.

The five major subcommittees of the student government are the Student-Faculty Committee (SFC), Committee for Activities Planning (CAP), Social Committee, Athletics Committee and Dormitory Affairs Committee (DAC). All except the SFC are composed of representatives from each residence hall. The Social Committee approves, schedules, and funds HMC and 5-College parties and activities. The Athletics Committee manages the intramural sports program and puts on special events and tournaments during the year. The Dormitory Affairs Committee is responsible for organizing student governance and regulations in the residence halls; the eight hall presidents serve on this committee. The Student-Faculty Committee consists of the class presidents and vice presidents and appointed faculty members. It is charged with investigating topics in student life, improving student-faculty relations and promoting class activities.

ASHMC Council maintains an extensive historical file of ASHMC and other student activities since the founding of the college. Contact the ASHMC President for more information.
