HMC
Gabriela Gamiz-Gomez

Gabriela Gamiz-Gomez has joined us as the first Administrator of the Homework Hotline. Gabriela is no stranger to HMC, having worked as the Associate Director, and then Director, of the Math and Science Center in the Upward Bound Program here from 1996 to 2002. More recently, she was the Project Director for a Title V grant for developing Hispanic serving institutions in the Riverside Community College District, where she has also been an Adjunct Professor of Education. Gabriela has a BA in Psychology from Pomona College and an MA in Education from CGU. She brings to the position a wealth of experience in  working with area K-12 schools, a deep understanding of the HMC community, and an enormous amount of creativity and energy. On the personal side, Gabriela is a Pomona native who still lives in the area with her husband, Francisco, and her two children, Diego (3) and Emma (19 months).

The Homework Hotline is a new HMC tutoring program for students in local secondary schools that will begin in pilot form this spring. By calling a toll-free number, high-school students will be able to reach trained HMC student ambassadors who will be trained to provide tutoring and advice in math and science. The program is offered as a free community outreach service and is based on the very successful Homework Hotline at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
