WRITING RESOURCES

HMC's Writing Center
The Writing Center offers an arena where students can work through the writing process and improve the expression of their ideas by participating in individualized conferences and occasional group workshops with trained peer consultants.

TEACHING RESOURCES

Sakai Collaborative Learning Environment
A course management and collaborative learning tool, the Sakai system serves faculty, staff and students of all seven Claremont Colleges and the Claremont University Consortium.

  • Features of Sakai
Sakai can be used to supplement traditional instruction by delivering course materials and collaborating with students. In your course site you may post your syllabus and schedule, share information and files, and set up online discussions, distribute grades, post and collect assignments, link to other websites and more.  Project sites can also be created to provide a collaborative vehicle containing all of the same tools as a course site.

  • Logging in
To log into the system, go to https://sakai.claremont.edu:8443/portal and click on the Login link in the upper right of the Welcome Page. Enter your network username and password, select Harvey Mudd College from the pull down window and click the Login button. Once logged in, you will be taken to your "My Workspace" page.

  • Logging out
Be sure to click the Logout link in the upper right corner of your page when you are finished working in Sakai. Close all brower windows to ensure that you are completely logged out and prevent unauthorized access to your sites by others.

SAKAI SITE RESOURCES
The Sakai Teaching Resources site is a great place to find and share your teaching resources, including sample syllabi, rubrics, writing assignments and scholarly articles on teaching. There are several resources already available and we'd love for you to add yours. This site is accessible by all HMC faculty, but not by students. To find the site, log in to Sakai and check out the tabs or pull-down menu for "Teaching Resources" (if you still cannot find the site, try adding it via My Workspace/Preferences/Customize Tabs).
