Dean of Faculty

Robert CaveFrom the moment I stepped on campus nearly 19 years ago, I was convinced that Harvey Mudd College is a special place. The ensuing years have only served to increase this feeling.

Our faculty is committed to student learning and goes to extraordinary lengths to make sure this is our highest priority. It is a community motivated and directed by our mission statement to broadly educate students in science, engineering, and mathematics, and in the Humanities and Social Sciences, with the hopes of fitting them for ethical decision-making in leadership roles, wherever their life journeys take them.

The faculty at HMC embrace this mission and strive to make it a reality through the development of innovative pedagogies, offering opportunities for student research, engaging students in the nationally recognized Clinic Program and challenging students to develop an informed world view that will make them responsible citizens in the 21st century.

In the Office of the Dean of Faculty we oversee the academic program. We are responsible for the hiring of new faculty and the support of existing academic programs and faculty. It is a privilege to be a part of such a stimulating faculty.

Sincerely,

Robert J. Cave
Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty
