HMC
Senior Account Expiration Policy

To all HMC students in the current graduating class :

Unix (Odin) and VMS (Thuban) accounts for graduates will be kept until October 1. This is also the date for all the departmental Unix boxes that Computing and Info Services is involved with in Chemistry, and Physics. After that date the account will be archived and removed from the system. If you would like your mail sent elsewhere then set up a .forward file in your home directory. The format of this file is a single line containing the full e-mail address that you would like your mail resent to. Both your Odin and hmc.edu addresses (not the account) will be active for at least 2 years. For more information on your Odin account, see http://www3.hmc.edu/docs/expiring.shtml for additional questions and answers.

If you are not returning but need an extension to the October 1 date please do NOT send us e-mail until September. We may lose all such messages. In September you will get another reminder of the upcoming account deletion. Send us your account extension request then. See http://www.hmc.edu/cis/doc/policy/accounts.html for information on who may qualify for an extension.

Senior accounts on Charlie and the Unix Math cluster will expire on July 1 after your graduation. You should make a copy of any data you wish to keep before that date. We need to reclaim the disk space for the incoming class of freshmen so your accounts will be deactivated on July 1. The files which you have stored on our Charlie file server will be deleted at that time.

Dorm IP addresses assigned to graduating seniors will be reclaimed on July 1st. Let us know if you will be here beyond that date and need to retain your IP address.

Finally, congratulations, you are now alums! Please check out the Alumni Web site, http://alumni.hmc.edu to find out about free life long email forwarding and other services the HMC Alumni Association has to offer.
