Career Fair: Mathematicians, Scientists and Engineers
The Naval Sea Systems Command will be holding a career fair focusing on the recruitment of civilian scientists and engineers who are interested in building and supporting America's Fleet of ships and combat systems. November 10th, 3-8 pm, JFK Middle College High School Multipurpose Room, 1951 Third St. Norco, CA 92860. Transportation may be provided on an as needed basis, please forward requests to Troy Clarke or Donnel Okamoto with your transportation requirements.
The U.S. Department of Energy is hosting a full-day CareerExpo on November 18 at the Marriott at LAX. Individual question and answer sessions will be held for students, faculty and community leaders who want to learn more about the cutting-edge research and full-time career opportunities that exist both at the Department of Energy and the corporate partners that will be in attendance. Learn about research opportunities, graduate scholarships and how you can partner with the DOE on a variety of new programs and initiatives in the fields of energy, science and emerging green technologies. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Space is limited but we encourage all to register for the event and be ready for a full day of learning and networking. The Office of Career Services has a work-study position open for a Student Assistant. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington offers a Post-Bachelor Fellowship program that combines a professional position with the opportunity to gain first-hand research experience in global health, advanced training in health metrics, and the opportunity to apply for a fully-funded Master of Public Health. Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree and proven quantitative and analytical skills. High academic potential and a strong interest in pursuing academic or professional careers related to global health. No background in global health or a related field is required. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) are pleased to offer a unique fellowship opportunity. The Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Laboratory Fellowship Program prepares laboratory scientists for careers in public health. The two-track program trains qualified candidates (bachelor’s and master’s level) to support public health initiatives, and provides opportunities for doctoral level scientists to conduct high priority infectious disease research in public health laboratories. Fellows are placed in local, state, and federal (CDC) public health laboratories. Ideal candidates have laboratory experience (including laboratory coursework) and an interest in public health. We are accepting applications for the 2010 fellowship program classes. The new class of approximately 40 fellows will begin their assignments in September 2010. City Year is a national non-profit organization built on the belief that young people can change the world. Young adults, 17-24, from across the country commit to one year of full-time service in a metro-area supporting children, schools and communities as tutors, mentors, and role-models. Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth seeks candidates for its first-in-the-nation Ph.D. Innovation Program. This program combines doctoral studies and research with the entrepreneurial training needed to turn research discoveries into marketable applied technologies. Even before graduating, one student in the program launched mPedigree, an organization to establish drug supply chain protection systems for the developing world.
