Mudd Surfs

Young Alumni Surfing event

A crisp morning at Venice Beach, where Mudders arrived by the carful before the 8 o’clock hour, only one thing could bring 25 young graduates so early, surfing…and donut man!

Sunny Trinh ’92/93 and his business partner Wes Negus of 9:fish surf prepared surf lessons and free demos of their boards on this morning.  With surfboards lined up along the wall, Mudders had their choice from a sushi menu of boards, from the Seared Ahi to a Finding Nemo Rainbow Fish!

After a few sand exercises they took to the water and afloat they wait for the right wave.  Some already experienced Mudders set out further in the ocean avoiding possible collision with the newbies.  With several instructors in the water, each Mudder took their chance facing the ocean, with only a surf board to support them.  Alas, Mudder after Mudder could be seen victoriously standing, if but only a brief moment, in triumph!

After a couple of hours attempting the wide blue yonder, the call of duty to clean up the coast brought the Mudders back without wetsuits.  Armed with colored plastic bags to identify the debris found along the shore, they separated every item they picked up.

Altogether the event proved successful, with Mudd in and out of the water, what better formula to a great time!
