When Harvey Mudd College opened its doors in 1957, a gallon of gas cost 24 cents and the cost of tuition for one student was $800.
A lot has changed in 50 years, and though the costs of gas and tuition have both increased, the one thing that has remained constant is the quality and prestige of a degree from HMC.
While the college blossomed due to the philanthropic spirit and enthusiastic commitment of Harvey S. Mudd, the substantial growth and success of HMC throughout the years is overwhelmingly attributed to the generous support shown by alumni, parents and friends of the college. Through that dedication, alumni join Harvey S. Mudd in creating a sustaining legacy for the college and ensuring that HMC remains one of the premier STEM (science, technology, engineering and math education) institutions in the United States.
