The 2008 HMC Alumni College is designed for those who think lifelong learning is right up there with things like great friends, good wine and chocolate. We realize learning is something Mudders are passionate about, so we’ve found some experts who have information to share that you will find compelling—dare we say, revolutionary?

1:30 p.m. Contemporary Photography: The Steak or the Sizzle
How have contemporary photographers been influenced by trends in contemporary art? This talk by Michael Wilson ’63 deals with the various movements and trends in contemporary photography and one collector's bewilderment in a confusing and perplexing market.

2:15 p.m. High Speed Photography of Bullets, Apples, Bubbles, Shock Waves and Stonehenge
J. Kim Vandiver ’68 reviews the contributions of Harold Edgerton to modern high-speed photography and presents some of his own high-speed Schlieren photographs of shock waves, convection and soap bubbles.

Professor Emeritus Tad Beckman discusses what the photography program has meant to HMC students and how it fits the vision of our Humanities and Social Sciences Department.

The HMCAA welcomes all Alumni Weekend 2008 participants to celebrate the commitment of various HMC community members. Celebrate the presentation of the Outstanding Alumni Award to both Michael Wilson ’63 and J. Kim Vandiver ’68.

After the awards ceremony, mingle with alumni, professors and the Class of 2008. Class pictures of reunion years will be taken at this time. Wines supplied by the Kendall-Jackson family of wineries through Mike Von der Porten ’78.

Following the cocktail reception and class pictures, those celebrating their 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th and 45th reunions will gather at different campus locations for their own unique reunion celebrations.  Locations will be announced after class pictures are taken. Those not part of the above reunion classes are welcome to join one of these dinners. Tickets are required and may be obtained at registration.
